This recipe for Hamburger Hash was submitted by David Bergquist of Sturgeon Lake, Minn. He invented it one night when his refrigerator was bare. "Anyone who lives alone knows how hard it is to cook for one," says Bergquist, who shares quarters with his canine companions Barney, Bently, Olive, Peanut, Ruby, Sadie and Thor. "This takes only a few minutes, beginning to end, and is very tasty."

What you need: Ground beef, diced onion, potato, can of whole-kernel corn, rosemary

How to make it: For one person, crumble ¼ pound ground beef, not too lean, into skillet. Cover and cook for 2 minutes or just until meat is no longer pink. (Note: Don't pour off grease.) Add 1 medium potato, quartered long way and sliced into ¼-inch pieces, a little diced onion, ¼ can whole-kernel corn with liquid, ¼ teaspoon crushed rosemary and salt and pepper to taste. Stir. Cover and cook over low heat until potatoes are tender, stirring a couple of times and adding a little water, if necessary, to prevent mixture from drying out.
