Julie Hertzog worried when her little boy went off to kindergarten. He has Down Syndrome, and as she said, "he was the poster child for getting picked on." Her concerns led to her involvement in bullying prevention, a field she has worked in for the last six years at
PACER Center, a state-wide advocacy and support organization in Bloomington for parents whose children have disabilities. She has written anti-bullying curriculum, led prevention workshops and headed up the creation of
PACER Center's Kids Against Bullying, a website to help elementary school students learn what to do if they are being bullied or witness it. This week is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week and the website is featured on
yahookids.com.
