Creativity expert, professor, father and former day care provider Rustin Wolfe writes a weekly MinnMoms parenting advice column that uses creative punishments to put a positive spin on negative behavior.

Here's one of his creative solutions:

BUTT OF HIS JOKE

Question: How can I deal with my 7-year-old's potty talk?

Behavior: Potty talk.

Problem: Inappropriate.

Solution: Try not to give it too much attention.

Activity: While there are some situations where you have to quash it fast, most of the time, it's just a little embarrassing. And we know too well that even negative attention is reinforcement when they're trying to get a rise out of you. I generally respond scientifically with my son. He'll say, 'Ha-ha, I see your butt!' and I'll respond matter-of-factly, 'Everyone has a butt.' Not reacting sucks the fun out of it for him.
